Telecom Italia becomes part of a Confindustria and trade union initiative to assist Italians affected by the earthquake

07/11/2012 - 06:00 PM

Moves continues to support residents of the affected areas

Telecom Italia has joined the "Contingency Fund to Support the Inhabitants, Workers and the Production System in the Emilia Romagna Region and the Province of Mantua", an initiative promoted by business confederation Confindustria and the CGIL, CISL, and UIL trade unions.

As part of this project, Telecom Italia employees can voluntary contribute to the Fund from July to October 2012 by donating an hour of work to be deducted from their monthly pay packet. The company will subsequently match donations collected from all employees to support people affected by the earthquake.

This initiative follows on from other ventures Telecom Italia put in place immediately after the first earthquake on 20 May to ensure communications services for the local population, the institutions and voluntary organizations working in the disaster area. Telecom Italia undertook a number of ventures, such as activating free Wi-Fi connection services in nine camps: San Felice sul Panaro (MO), Cento (FE), Finale Emilia (MO), Sant’Agostino (FE), Massa Finalese (Municipality of Finale Emilia), Campo dei Salici (Reggiolo, RE), Campo Lazio (S. Possidonio, MO), Centro Sportivo Mirandola (MO) and the Campo CRI (Concordia sulla Secchia, MO). The company has plans to gradually roll out Wi-Fi coverage at other camps.

Furthermore, Telecom Italia has credited €10 of free calls to the accounts of all TIM consumer account customers who own a prepaid card in the earthquake area.

To help the company’s fixed telephony residential and business customers, Telecom Italia has temporarily ceased sending out bills to the owners of lines active in the affected municipalities where no telephone traffic was registered after the earthquake. Independent of bill payment dates, outstanding claims management for invoices issued to all customers is frozen until 20 August for Telecom Italia and TIM bills.

In addition, until 31 July residential and business fixed line customers who wish to transfer their telephone line will not be charged. Customers who declare that their home or business premises is unfit for use do not have to pay any deactivation charges for services active for less than a year.

To accelerate the return of economic activity to the so-called "yellow zone", for six months Telecom Italia is offering Nuvola Italiana cloud-based infrastructure solutions (including virtual servers, storage and virtual desktop services) free of charge. To sign up to this initiative, simply call the toll-free number 800 191 101, using the dedicated PIN number 8223420.

Telecom Italia is also waiving charges to other telephone carriers on orders received between 1 June and 31 October to activate, migrate or terminate wholesale access services via lines used to provide their own services to end users in earthquake-affected municipalities.

Lastly, in partnership with other telephone carriers, Telecom Italia has provided the Civil Protection Department with a dedicated fundraising phone number (45500). Until 10 July, customers had the opportunity to donate two euros either by sending a text message from the mobile network, or by calling from the fixed-line network.
