"TIM Edge & Cloud Continuum" is TIM's project initiated under the "Important Projects of Common European Interest" (IPCEI), launched by the European Commission to promote and support collaboration between companies and research centres to implement innovative and strategic industrial development and production projects in specific sectors.

In particular, in December 2023, the European Commission authorised the roll out of the first IPCEI focused on technologies to create a European value chain for Cloud Infrastructure and Services (CIS). The aim is to foster the interoperability and integration of cloud offerings in Europe, the availability of public and private investments in the Edge and Cloud sector, and the entry of new companies into the market, to promote a growing ecosystem. 

With 'TIM Edge & Cloud Continuum', TIM is among the Italian companies that received IPCEI-CIS funding.

The purpose of the project is to develop and implement a next-generation Edge Cloud Continuum, offering high performance in terms of latency and minimum guaranteed bandwidth, ensuring open and public access to all use cases and related open data management, guaranteeing security and compliance with EU data legislation, and providing a basis for new European digital services.

This advanced infrastructure will not only foster economic growth, but also create energy-efficient, automated and interconnected services that were unthinkable until recently. It will also enable the development of innovative data-driven business models and processes, which are indispensable for the sustainable transformation of European industry. This project will promote low-carbon technologies and sustainable applications in the cloud sector, thus contributing to the overall reduction of environmental impact.
