From 18 November to 2 March, at Palazzo Piacentini - headquarters of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy - you can visit ‘Italy of Patents: Successful Inventions and Innovations’, the exhibition celebrating Made in Italy with a selection of over 100 patents granted over the past 10 years.
Among these, there is also TIM's patent linked to the TIM Urban Genius platform, a smart city technology solution we implement through TIM Enterprise. The TIM Urban Genius patent was selected by experts from the Ministry, the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Cagliari and the Sapienza University of Rome for its value in the field of smart city mobility.
TIM Urban Genius is a Urban Intelligence Platform created by TIM Enterprise, which applies the latest technology, such as Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, to the management of a complex system, such as a city. Data combined with technology, generate territorial knowledge and enable administrations to plan services, analyse short- and long-term phenomena, optimise costs, and, above all, improve the well-being of citizens and businesses and support growth and sustainable development.
In particular, the patent displayed at Palazzo Piacentini concerns a specific platform function, which allows monitoring the movements of participants at a given event within an area, and to better manage and plan the transport systems of such area. This system, based on the real-time, anonymous and aggregated use of data collected by TIM's mobile network, generates an 'origin-destination' matrix that statistically analyses mobility across the territory, considering only the movements of those taking part in the event. This feature is very useful, especially at sporting and cultural events that attract many people.
