Telecom Italia is consolidating its mobile ultrabroadband leadership as the number of municipalities covered by TIM’s new services over the LTE network rises to 384, offering outdoor coverage of more than 41% of the population nationwide – a figure set to exceed 60% by the end of 2015.
From today, “ULTRA Internet 4G” services offering data transmission speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s (download) and 50 Mbit/s (upload) are now available in an additional 84 municipalities including Salerno, La Spezia, Asti, Marsala and Torre del Greco, as well as the 300 areas that already have coverage.
This major boost to the new 4G network extension programme is the result of significant investment by Telecom Italia to build out an increasingly modern infrastructure that offers technologically-advanced services and caters to customer needs and the ever-increasing amount of traffic generated by cellphones, thumb drive and other modems, smartphones and tablets. The company’s objective is to offer an increasing number of TIM customers performance and levels of service that significantly enhance their web browsing experience through access to groundbreaking content such as HD video streaming on the move.
Seventy-four of the 384 municipalities already covered by TIM “Ultrabroadband” services are large and medium cities (Rome, Milan, Turin, Naples, Bologna, Genoa, Venice, Cagliari, Palermo, Trento, Bari, Pisa, Brescia, Trieste, Lecce, Parma, Perugia and Taranto among them).
Consumer and business “ULTRA Internet 4G” packages to access the internet from smartphones, tablets and PCs via thumb drive and other modems offer levels of service and data traffic bundles that are a step up from 3G standards. The service also offers access to TIM Cloud services and a range of exclusive content that leverages the higher network performance.
