TIM and Fastweb welcome the decision of the Italian Competition Authority to start assessing what impact the establishment of FiberCop could have in view of the joint venture becoming fully operational in the first quarter of 2021.
The start of discussions, following a request by TIM and Fastweb, in the spirit of collaboration that has always marked the relationship between the two operators and the sector authorities, represents an important step after the European Commission announced on 26 November last that FiberCop would not be subject to any disclosure obligations and approval by the EU Competition Authority.
FiberCop, whose goal is rapid deployment of optical fibre (FTTH), and in particular the coverage of 76% of the black and grey areas, will develop following the open co-investment model, as laid down in the new European Communications Code, thanks to which all operators concerned will be able to take part in the project with various methods of participation and with a view to ensuring maximum competition.
