This year, as always, Telecom Italia will provide company for the senior citizens who stay in the cities as they empty during the summer holidays. “Tim Solidarity Pony express”, a longstanding initiative started over a decade ago, aims to provide assistance to the senior citizens left alone in the cities, helping them in their day to day life, to face the emergencies caused by the hot weather, or just to provide them with a little company.
Started in collaboration with the Municipal Departments for Social Policy and some of the most important Volunteer Associations in Milan, Rome, Naples, Turin, Bologna and Palermo, the initiative enables seniors to contact a number made available free of charge by the Municipality, which will activate its “pony express”, consisting of volunteers “armed” with a TIM mobile phone who provide the assistance requested, also on weekends and on August Bank Holiday.
The initiative was announced today in , during the presentation of the communications activities of the “Plan to fight the heat”, attended by Mayor Letizia Moratti, the Milan Municipal Councillor for Families, Schools and Social Policy Mariolina Moioli, and the main Volunteer Associations.
The previous rounds of the “Tim Pony Express for Solidarity” have shown how useful the project is, and received considerable appreciation from the senior citizens left alone in the cities: man requests for help came to the switchboards of the cities involved, with requests ranging from help in daily tasks to calls to solve minor domestic problems.
Telecom Italia, in accordance with its traditional commitment in the field of social work and sustainability, is collaborating in numerous initiatives for “digital inclusion” to the underprivileged sectors of the population, making available technology and experience to support social initiatives throughout the country.
