TIM joins the Open Gateway project promoted by GSMA with the aim of accelerating the new era of digital services. Within the framework of the agreement, supported by 20 international mobile operators, TIM will launch in Italy and Brazil the first platform designed to provide universal access for the development and sale of applications based on API (Application Programmable Interfaces) functions. The solution, designed for the Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Business to Consumer (B2B2C) markets, aims to help developers create new services and opportunities in a quick and easy way.
Through Open Gateway Italian and Brazilian service providers will be able to sell their applications all over the world, thanks to the international Operators alliance, relying on standard contracts, simple procedures, and fast and secure payments. The goal of the platform is to reduce fragmentation in the application market and enhance the application ecosystem across the mobile industry.
Pietro Labriola, TIM Group’s CEO stated "The telco industry needs simple rules and to accelerate the launch of digital services. The Open Gateway project will foster the creation of communication solutions while guaranteeing a better user experience for customers. This is an high-potential market that will grow by more than 25% over the next three years. Open Gateway will accelerate the development of new business models, generating significant benefits for the entire digital industry, thanks also to the integration of these new services with the solutions already in use by telco operators.”

In Italy, TIM, through TIM Enterprise, the business unit dedicated to large customers and the Public Administration, has launched a dedicated API portal (Developer.tim.it) to better support customers, developers and system integrators in using the most innovative APIs. The portal includes APIs compliant with the GSMA Open Gateway standard that guarantees the compatibility of systems and solutions.
In Brazil, the launch of the platform will bring to market solutions based on the country's largest Internet of Things network and widest mobile coverage. Thanks to Open Gateway, TIM Brasil will further enhance its connectivity service offering for businesses, enabling enterprise and industrial applications.
The catalogue of APIs made available to developers will be progressively enhanced starting from the number verification and SIM swap, with progressive enrichment in the following months.
