Improving our environmental impact by consuming less, prioritising the renewable energy and reducing CO2 emissions is one of the objectives that guide our choices and actions on a daily basis. For this reason, together with Enel X — the Enel Group company dedicated to energy efficiency and innovative energy services — we have installed a large-capacity photovoltaic system at the La Figuretta telephone exchange in Pisa, a new tile in the mosaic we are building to support the energy transition and sustainability.
Thanks to the new plant, we will significantly reduce withdrawals from the electricity grid at the Pisa exchange. In fact, the renewable energy produced by the new green plant will be 100% self-consumed, helping to make the facility more sustainable.
The plant will be able to generate more than 1.63 GWh for year, the equivalent of the energy needed to power an urban district or town of about 600 households, and, being 100% green, will produce savings of about 740,000 kg of CO2 per year.
The telecommunications sector is very energy intensive, which is also why we are committed to maximising our energy efficiency and using sustainable sources, with the goal of eliminating our indirect emissions by 2025 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. What we are doing in Pisa is an example of the activities that we also want to implement in other industrial sites across the country.
