Last 9 November, 400 new trees and shrubs, including dogwood, alder, poplar, rose and maple, were planted in the Stura Sud Park in Turin by 70 volunteers, including TIM employees and their families.
The forestry project, implemented through BioForest® - a new form of urban forestation aimed at protecting biodiversity - employs the innovative Tiny Forest or Miyawaki Forest technique. According to this approach, native trees and shrubs are planted and arranged in high density to encourage rapid growth and help the regeneration of the local ecosystem. The new plants will absorb around 160,000 kgCO₂ throughout their life cycle, or the emission equivalent of about 1,780,000 PET plastic bottles.
The initiative was promoted in partnership with Rete Clima, an organisation that helps companies plan sustainability and decarbonisation actions, within the framework of the Foresta Italia® National Campaign, in partnership with Coldiretti and PEFC Italy.
Here at TIM, forest redevelopment in Italy is a concrete commitment. Prior to the Turin initiative, we carried out similar activities in Parco Nord in Milan and in the Aguzzano Regional Park in Rome, managing to plant over 1000 shrubs and trees.
