We are closing with a very positive result these days on the climate change and ESG front, hence on our environmental, social and governance performance.
The two awards come from the CDP and Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, respectively.
The fight against climate change
TIM has been participating in the CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) assessment since 2010, and this year, we were included on the B list — a slight improvement from the B- list in 2021 — in a leadership position achieved through a series of concrete actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving energy efficiency, purchasing renewable energy, and promoting an increasingly sustainable supply chain, and it follows the recognition for environmental strategy recently obtained by SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative).
Our targets also play a major role. We want to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, reducing emissions from production (Scope 1) and from purchasing electricity (Scope 2) by 75%, as we have committed to purchasing 100% renewable energy by 2025. Additionally, by 2030, emissions in our value chain (Scope 3) related to purchasing goods and services, purchasing capital goods, and the use of products sold to customers will be reduced by 47%.
Another challenging goal is for us to achieve zero net emissions by 2040.
Commitment to ESG issues
For the nineteenth consecutive year, we have been confirmed on S&P's Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, the stock exchange's ESG index, placing us among the sustainability leaders and the only telecommunications company in Italy.
The Group also placed high on Moody's ESG Solutions ranking, with an ESG performance above the industry average, and the Ecovadis top list for its sustainable supply chain. It has also been included in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and the Refinitiv Diversity & Inclusion Index for diversity and inclusion practices.
For us, this is an important milestone that acknowledges our ongoing focus on ESG principles, which are included in our 2022-2024 Strategic Plan and at the heart of our development strategy focused on creating shared value with stakeholders through numerous sustainability activities and projects integrated with the business.
