Also this year we have offset the CO2 emissions generated by browsing the TIM Group's main websites in 2024. To calculate emissions, we used the CO2web® methodology developed by Rete Clima, a non-profit organisation specialised in promoting sustainability in companies, and subsequently verified by the ICMQ Certification Body.
In order To offset our footprint, for the third consecutive year we have chosen to support the international project "The Envira Amazonia Project REDD+" which aims to conserve and sustainably manage the rainforest.
Through this project, which is certified according to VCS-Verra standards, we make a concrete contribution to the protection of 39,000 hectares of Brazilian Amazon rainforest, helping to mitigate climate change, prevent deforestation and protect a habitat that is essential for many endemic bird and tree species, as well as to improve local water quality. In addition, this project supports local communities by creating alternative sources of income and job opportunities, but also by providing training to transfer information and innovative techniques to increase agricultural productivity, thus promoting the sustainable development of the area.
TIM Group Against Climate Change
The offset of emissions generated by the Group's sites is part of the TIM Group's sustainability strategy, which makes environmental protection one of its priority lines of action, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Our activities focus on the use of renewable energy, on reducing consumption thanks also to the use of fibre and 5G, and offering sustainable services and solutions for working, producing, learning, and living.
In addition, in recent years we have also realised specific forest redevelopment projects dedicated to Italy, involving our colleagues in planting new trees, with the aim of increasing the naturalness of urban green areas and generating a service to the territory and its inhabitants:
Rete Clima's CO2web® method
To assess the emissions of TIM Group websites, the CO2web® method developed by Rete Clima and verified by the ICMQ certifying body was used. This method calculates the greenhouse gas emissions generated by website hosting on the basis of the energy consumed by the servers hosting the web pages and of all the services required for their operation, including cooling.
Emissions were neutralised through the cancellation of carbon credits in support of an international environmental protection project, certified in accordance with the VCS-Verra standard, to generate an equal amount of positive environmental impact (carbon offsetting), validated and verified in accordance with the CCBS - The Climate Community and Biodiversity Standards with Triple Gold Level Distinction for positive impact on climate change mitigation, support to local communities and the protection of biodiversity.
Finally, the carbon neutrality of the sites has been certified with the issue of a green label "CO2 emission zero® website", which will appear on all the Group's websites.
